Part the First: Steps and Missteps
We come into this world as bright-eyed, curious little creatures. The world is fresh and new, and adventure and wonderment awaits us in such simple things: dew settled on a spider web, the myriad curious shapes that appear in clouds on a warm summer afternoon, or watching some tiny wren relishing the discovery of an unfortunate insect…
And yet, too often we lose this innate curiosity, gradually slipping onto the mundane treadmill that is everyday life. We get an education and grow up and drive to and from a job, never getting to stop and admire the surroundings, every day wishing for Friday, for the weekend, for the next holiday, payday… wishing and worrying ourselves into an early grave.
By age 26, I found myself walking into this trap, and, through a lot of soul-searching, prioritizing, and a great deal of support, I somehow devised a hard-reset on life, extricating myself from autopilot and steering back onto the scenic route. Now, whether through some vanity, pride, or just a compulsion to share my day-to-day experiences with those I care about (or, rather, “those about which I care,” admonished the overcaffeinated English teacher to the prepositionally preposterous pupil), I have decided to record some of my thoughts, experiences and life through the written word, in the hopes that these experiences will not fade through time, or go the way of the proverbial fishing tale, embellished beyond any semblance of belief. This is, and will be, my story-- one adventure at a time.
